I love this time of year, I just wish it came to us about a month sooner! I have many green things coming up, and even some of the johhny jump ups have bloomed. Last night Ellie very thoughtfully picked all the blooms off as a gift for me!
We are ordering the tree that I have wanted for so long - weeping white spruce. We are getting the tiniest thing, I hope it makes it in our terrible soil (excavated maybe 20 feet)- we can't afford to buy a bigger tree and take a chance of it dying (a 3 foot tree is $200 - 5 foot around $500, and it just goes up from there!)
We have also had so many birds return, it is amazing. I see beautiful swans, blue herons, egrets and we have a resident pheasant family on our back hill. Life seems pretty good when there is so much of it around you!
What kind of soil do you have up there? Our soil seems pretty nutritious but poorly draining. And acidic... One thing we don't have to worry about here is rain - we had a bit of a drought the first few months of this year, but it caught up to us with a vengence the past two weeks. We've had about 15 inches in that time, with more expected soon...
