Musings from DAD II

DJC Note: I am posting the second half of DAD's blog entry by his request. He did't want to build suspense and then lose interest, so here is part two of the GOLDEN GIRL...

...They descended from the tower and played together in beautiful meadows of green filled with myriads of fragrant blossoms. They laughed and frolicked and clung together and he thought his heart would burst with joy. Finally he picked her up and carried her off to a magnificent

smiled and laughed for joy in the happy times, and in the hard or unhappy times they cried and clung together and learned the valuable lessons of life every day. Soon they had children around their feet and the man looked at his little ones and was pleased. The man saw in each of them something of the proud and beautiful eagle. ificent temple in the desert. There, hands clasped as they knelt at a sacred alter they pledged their love for ever, for all time and etiernity. There she gave herself to him, and he took her into his heart to be a part of him always and all ways. And outside the desert blossomed into a green and fruitful garden.

The years have passed as if only moments. The young ones have grown tall and strong and became handsome men and lovely ladies. The man is blessed with grand children and great grand children and he smiles as he takes them in his arms. He holds them reverently and thinks again of his Father in Heaven and of his lovely companion, his GOLDEN GIRL. Her golden brown hair has partly turned to white. Her lovely face shows the evidence of the passing of many years. They do not run together any more. Their steps are slow and sometimes a little faltering and painful. But every day he has joy and in his heart, and rejoices in his eternal marriage, and in his Savior who made it all possible. And the love song she planted there so long ago rings loud and clear, and he recalls the words of the poet; “Grow old with me, the best is yet to come”.

Hand in hand they left the temple and started upon their long journey through life. They were so very happy. They He took them in his arms and blessed them and rejoiced because he knew that they were sent from a loving Heavenly Father for him to care for. He watched as he and his Golden Girl, their mother worked together to mold them and shape them for their future lives, and he loved her more and more with the passing of each day.

Life is not always kind. There are hard lessons to be learned, and there are no short cuts on the road to knowledge and perfection. There are some questions that seem to have no answers at this time, and so they must learn patience. The man and his Golden Girl have had their share of hard knocks. They have suffered their share of losses, and made their share of mistakes. But always there has been enough love to eventually smooth out the bumps and mend the hurts. Eventually because some hurts last a long time, and seem almost more that the heart can endure. And so they carry them and share them together and even in this there is joy.

dunno why this just popped into my head, but i remember when i was a little kid in california and we were on our way to grandpa and grandma's house, and we passed this huge field of flowers that my dad told me grandma used to always love to drive to and watch. i can't remember where or when it happened, but for some reason this story made me think of cruising in the minivan with dad =)
