President Monson's Counsel : Internet for Good

In keeping with the counsel from President Monson today, I have implemented secure ID's for all bloggers.

This will inconvenience some of you that have been posting anonymous comments. I apologize in advance for the trouble. The primary problem is that unscrupulous users may access our blog and obtain personal information that we'd as soon keep from them. They sell lists of info like this to telemarketers, purveyors of porn and the like, and you never know where your name might end up.

Another problem comes from idlers who have little better to do than entertain themselves with masquerading exercises such as internet sock-puppets and falsified lognames. These people are easily entertained but soon frustrated by marginal security, kind of like not leaving the keys in your ignition. It stops the stoopid ones cold. These are just full of malice, but lacking plain sense enough to come in out of the rain. If any of them try getting in now, Google will report their ISP and suspend their Internet service. Not a big deal for serious spammers, but probably would cause a headache or two for the malicious troublemakers. They're all of the same stripes to me. A bunch of lowly scum that are ashamed to even use their own names.

Serious hackers aren't even slowed down by such measures. I have other tricks in reserve if any if them come knocking.

Anyway, time to tighten up the ship a bit.

If there are any problems because of this change please feel free to contact me directly. My number is listed in the phone directory, and snail mail works too.

Legitimate users may experience minor inconvenience if you don't already use a Gmail account. If that is the case, please establish one and come back right away. We love all of you. Every one. Except the spammers.

No, we even try to love them, don't we? Love the sinner, hate the sin, that kinda thing.

Other than that, this is a dictatorship. I don't even pretend to be democratic. If it fails to please me, it doesn't get posted here. Simple as that.

If you already have Gmail, just use the same ID you established there. It works.

Notwithstanding the problems with the unscrupulous and unethical, we continue to extend the invitation to all those who qualify by the thirteenth article of faith: We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men;indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report
or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

We solicit blog posts that qualify under this criterion -- nothing else will do. Mediocre is just acceptable as the best we can manage some days; but we must always try our best. The Boy Scouts code of ethics have served me well in this respect, and is one way I think of it when questions come to mind. Since I am the dictator on the list, if there is any doubt, please refer to me for final judgement.

Thank you kindly.
